"global" [tv]
today, i was on the subway--as i am on seven days a week--and i couldn't help but notice the new ads they had placed. especially when it was blaring right into my face and plastered on every possible space--of course, excluding the windows and perhaps the doors.
"global" (television network that tends to sway right of centre and maybe further right at times) had taken over the subway car. again, i couldn't help but notice that the lighting was perfect in this car unlike the other usual cars where a light would be barely lighting, flickering ever so often, or even broken. great for global i guess.
there was one in particular that bothered me. advertising "et", as they so eloquently called it, in reality entertainment tonight. (or is it tonite for that show? i don't watch tv, so you'll have to forgive for this...although i can't say i'm sorry.)
allow me to state what was written on the poster: (i despised it so much that i copied it down and wrote it on my hand instead of reading my textbook)
WHO'S DOING WHAT AND WHO ARE THEY WEARING WHEN THEY DO IT
[beside that blurb, of course is the "ET" and what i assume to be, their two main "newscasters"]
THE SHOW YOU WATCH WHEN YOU NEED TO KNOW REALLY IMPORTANT STUFF
the last line bothered me the most. "really important stuff"? come on! and "stuff"? what is "stuff" aside from a group of celebrities donning the corporate garb?
i do believe over 400 russians were killed. heck, forget about that. how about the news in darfur? [sudan] or the next "mistake" (as i shall put it quite lightly) that bush is going to make on iran? the tensions in taiwan? previous elections in china? hurricane ivan? one of my coworkers has to go back home because his house has been destroyed. i'm talking too much.
shame. shame on the advertisers. and shame on those who don't think twice about what they're doing.
just shame.
